About This Game Conclave is an online RPG with the story and turn-based combat of a classic fantasy tabletop campaign. It supports both solo and co-op parties of up to four players, who can adventure together in real time or take turns separately at their leisure. The game is set in and around the lands of the Conclave, last refuge of the Kin. Its story begins with the unexpected return of a long-vanished Dreamcaller and leads to the discovery of an ageless secret locked within the heart of the Conclave itself. Play a campaign of 25 interconnected adventures that combine combat encounters with story decisions. In combat, take advantage of your abilities and the special qualities of each encounter's battlemap to defeat your foes. During story decisions, choose from options unlocked by your skills, traits, and previous decisions. Your choices influence your path through the story, the encounters you face, and the resources you can draw upon to defeat them. As you gain renown, the Conclave shares better equipment to complement the special items you discover on your adventures. No scrounging for useless items to resell. Five archetypes support a variety of play styles: Vanguard, Beacon, Rogue, True Bow, and Runecaster. Five playable races, all unique to the game's setting: Trow, Nix, Mezoar, Lumyn, and Forgeborn. Somethin' about a more tactical, turn-based combat just tickles me sideways, and all the effects and strategy and little abilities and terrain and all is delightful. There are some definite flaws - it *feels* a little clunky at times, a few small things aren't terribly intuitive - some of the terrain is a little hard to say, it's not obvious at first what is 'impassable' without the square coordinates turned on, it's not clear if you can 'pass' a turn or have to take an action (hint, you do, but you seem to have several at-will abilities you can use every turn, so fair enough), it also seems like you must take your minor action before your major, which doesn't seem super intuitive, it'd be nice to have some higher resolution option..With that said, I think the positive dramatically outweight the negative. They did a great job capturing a lot of the 'feel' of a table-top turn based type game. Options aren't always good or bad, it isn't always just 'fight or don't fight', there's neat little tidbits that give extra options later, equipment otherwise unavailable, and so forth. You can play entirely asyncrhonously so you need not worry about awkward scheduling - people can pop on, review turns up to theirs, do theirs, and move on. It'd be amazing for a group of folks who want to play but don't often have time to play together, but still want to play. The classes are familiar but unique enough to be intriguing - I personally love the feel of a 'leader' type role, not a "tank" or a "holy-roller" healer, nor a back-row support buffer, but a character that sorta halfway fits all the roles. Equipment items seem to grant various passives and usable abilities as much as not, which adds that many more little fiddly fun options during combat to use and strategize with. It also seems to work well with fewer than four - my husband and I have tromped through the first handful of adventures, and had quite a bit of fun doing so.. A few were close calls, we even died once, but we used what we learned and stomped it next time..Altogether, I would love to see more of what Conclave has to offer, no questions asked. I can see some of the criticism - the visuals could use a little tuning up most notably at a glance - but that always takes a back seat to the core game, and to me it's downright delightful. Solid recommend from me, no question about it.. Fair warning: Conclave is a browser-based game with major bugs (The 'close window' button doesn't consistantly work for a significant number of the game's pop-ups), no resolution/fullscreen options and less character development than the average World of Warcraft-era MMO.The setting is mildly interesting, but the stories ultimately come down to 'Option A, Option B or Option C due to a bonus skill' and don't seem to offer much more than generic fantasy drivel that's about on par with your average homebrew setting dossier. There's a 'demo' available in the form of a F2P mode not mentioned on the Steam page, which allows players to try out the first couple dozen or so missions and get to grips with what the game offers... I urge you to try that before buying the game on Steam... In fact, due to the numerous bugs in the game's UI, playing via the browser is in fact EASIER, since you can just F5 to get around what would otherwise require you to restart the client from scratch.TL;DR: It's a buggy browser game that takes the worst aspects of modern MMOs (Pre-determined builds, overreliance on random players) and tabletop games (Decidedly average homebrew settings, achingly slow character progression and glacial box-text-based pacing) and combines it into one messy experience. Better to stick to Roll20 for now.. Tabletop game with LOTS of potential. Very fun!. This game is very easy to dismiss. The interface is web-base and a chore to use. The visual feedback is virtually nonexistent. In short, if you aren’t reading the quest text and the combat log, you’ll have no idea what is happening. But if you do read, and you invest a bit of imagination into Conclave, the game can really draw you in; and honestly, that’s what D&D has always been -- your imagination. I have played thousands of hours of tableside RPGs and the experience has always been as good as the group playing. If you have a good group of roleplayers or the kind of imagination that lets you play for hours by yourself, Conclave can be a lot of fun.The game plays best if you set your Windows Resolution to 1280 x 800.OK! I've had more time to play Conclave, and I must say: Reading the story really makes this game. Believe me, I am the first person to whine about having to read too much text in a video game. But this is well written and it provides the much needed context to the combat...I am being chased by slavers after freeing a group of their captives. I took my party off the trail (due to my stealth ability). As night falls, we're hungry and cold, but we found a cave! -- only to be attacked by a bear. This is good fun.. My initial review of the game recommended it but also begged for more content. I was very quickly told by the devs that there was a new update that would make replaying ththe game worth it. For the most part I can agree. The single player update was an awesome leap in the right direction. More importantly they saw that I loved the game and went out of their way to reply to me. This game deserves some attention. It's fun for lovers of tabletop games or turn based fantasy. I admit it took a bit for me to get into it at first but I got hooked. I love this game and I'm excited to see what the developers do.. It has almost no graphics by modern standards, not much in the way of sound and a pretty good soundtrack. But as far as old school turn-based combat goes, it's pretty damn solid. Good fun with a bunch of friends, especially people who have been into pen&paper RPGs at some point. Once you get a few abilities under the character belts it can be quite tactical and sitting around quarreling / discussing tactics on discord is great fun.. I'm liking this game. It really does feel like a lite board game RPG. Bonus for the option for playing at my own pace, and the easy multiplayer.. kinda boringit feels kinda sloweven do like the idea. Bought this game yesterday. Refunded it today. The UI is atrocious. If the dev team ever re-releases this game with a UI befitting this decade/millenium I'll be happy to give it another try.. I'm liking this game. It really does feel like a lite board game RPG. Bonus for the option for playing at my own pace, and the easy multiplayer.
